What is special about the clothes worn by Japanese samurai?
1. The exquisiteness of haori, straight down, and hakama
①Haori (はおり/Haori) can be simply understood as a jacket, which can be matched with any clothing such as straight, white, long-wearing, and small sleeves. There are many styles, such as ten toku haori, black grain fu haori and so on.

The most iconic Haori is Shinsengumi's light green Yamagata cuff Haori:
To match the armor, the one worn on the battlefield is called Jinbaori (じんばおり/Jinbaori), which is a bit like a vest.
②Hitatare (ひたたれ/Hitatare) is a formal dress for samurai men in the Heian period. It imitates the noble costume and has been a more formal dress for samurai since then. The material is silk (silk). Straight hanging can be either a straight hanging jacket or a straight hanging suit, usually with a black hat. Pay attention to the chest button on the front of the clothing, as well as the sleeve exposed on the cuffs. A good fan is also essential. This is an important accessory that distinguishes the vertical hanging from other clothing.

Because it is a dress, it is generally used in formal occasions, such as Yuanfu ceremony, meeting the daimyo, New Year's greetings, receiving canonization, receiving emperor's envoy, and martial arts wedding.
③Hakama (Hakama), bottoms, called culottes in China. There are many types of hakama. There are hakama for priests and maidens, hakama for festivals and kabuki. Generally speaking, hakama for samurai is called Majo hakama.
The five creases in front of the hakama represent the five lords, fathers and sons, couples, brothers, and friends. The five constants are benevolence, righteousness, etiquette, wisdom, and faith, which are the ethical and moral standards that the samurai must abide by.
Samurai who uphold traditional beliefs value the neatness of their clothes. Therefore, in "The Legend of Ryoma", Wuichi Hanheita, the nobleman of the barbarians, found out that his friend Ryoma was not a hakama, so he taught: "As a samurai, you can't be so undisciplined."
2. What do you wear in the belt without a sword & culottes?
If the hakama does not open a mouth, the sword cannot be placed horizontally well, which will affect the speed of drawing the japanese sword, and it is easy to injure yourself.
In the hakama, you don’t wear pants except underpants (in fact, you don’t need to wear underpants. Many kendo ancestors say they don’t wear underpants during competitions and practice. It feels very good not to wear underwear. Don’t ask me how I know...), but in winter You can wear leggings to keep you warm. I have seen older generations wear them. Modern sports leggings and traditional kendo hakama have a strong sense of violation. Since the tops are very long, there is generally no need to worry about running out.
